Coach Jarrett and Coach Leber held a free Coaches' Clinic for youth basketball coaches on Saturday, November 22. Youth coaches from Middletown, Myersville, and Wolfsville had the opportunity to get to know each other and learn more about coaching philosophy, planning practices, working with youngsters, and teaching skills. A group of 15 men and women attended the clinic and then they were all able to stay and watch the MHS varsity boys basketball team practice. All coaches who attended the clinic received a Nike basketball clipboard and a packet with drills, information, and motivational quotes. The coaches also watched a short video clip about legendary UCLA coach John Wooden and his philosophy of teaching youngsters. Drawings were held for prizes like Middletown Basketball sweatshirts and t-shirts, framed autographed photos of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, and a certificate for free admission for a youngster to attend the Middletown "Gym Rat" Basketball Camp next July. Coach Jarrett and Coach Leber are both extremely grateful for the efforts of the youth coaches in our community. They plan to make the Coaches' Clinic an annual event.
Some comments heard from the youth coaches after the clinic:
"Fantastic!"
"The clinic was right on the money!"
"I would attend if they had one every week!"
