105 YOUNGSTERS ATTEND MIDDLETOWN'S
"GYM RAT" BASKETBALL CAMP

Middletown High School was the site of the four-day "Gym Rat" Basketball Camp. A total of 105 youngsters participated in the camp, which was held July 9-12 and was sponsored by the MHS Sports Boosters.

The main objectives of the camp were to help young players entering grades 2-9 develop their individual skills and to provide them with many opportunities to improve during competitive games.  Campers participated in daily skill development stations, 3-on-3 games, free throw shooting competitions, Hot Spot shooting contests, and 5-on-5 games. No trophies were presented because the camp staff has decided to encourage youngsters to participate "simply for the love of playing the game" and not for material awards. All campers received a camp t-shirt, certificate of participation, and motivational packet.  More than $ 500 worth of door prizes were given out during the week. MHS graduates Kevin Harris, Tanner Mills, and Chris Pirrone were league commissioners and assisted in the overall organization of the camp.

High school student-athletes who served as counselors at the camp were rising seniors Paul Aniugo, Ian Grife, Jack Panther, and Ben Racz; rising juniors Ben Panther, Brad Rinehart, and Mitch Sgrignoli; and rising sophomores Cedric Ayenu, Jake Full, Colson Kirchner, Andrew Klingensmith, Nick Little, Ian Roy, Lucas Soule, and Devon Tan.

Head coach Aaron White and assistant coach John Keimig were the camp co-directors and were assisted by coach John Yoho and coach Jason Smith.
