THE MIDDLETOWN TRADITION


When Ron Engle was named the varsity boys basketball coach at Middletown High School in 1967, a new era of success began for the Knights. Coach Engle coached from 1967 to 1989 and took the program to great heights.

Coach Engle led the Knights to four trips to the state playoffs at Cole Field House, and his teams captured 11 Monocacy Valley Athletic League titles. During Coach Engle's 22 years as Middletown's coach, the



Knights racked up 337 victories and posted winning records in 20 of 22 seasons. His coaching career ended in 1989 following a state playoff appearance at College Park
After Coach Engle stepped down in 1989, former Knight Barry Blickenstaff took over and paced the team to 94 wins and a trip to Cole Field House during the next five years.

Since Coach Engle came to Middletown in 1967, the varsity team has earned 749 victories, averaging 15.3 wins per season over 49 years.
